Still Can't Turn Corners

Hey Y'all,
So let's see here.  It has been another week.  The weeks seem to continue to go by at a constant pace.  Mostly because time is constant no matter what you are doing.  I'd much rather have a good time during it though and that is how things have been going recently so all is well.  Nevertheless, on with the weekly summary.  Tuesday we had district activity.  We went and played softball in President Aukema's (counselor in the mission presidency)  field.  Let's just say I can club a softball but I still can't turn corners.  I smashed a ball clear over the outfielder's head and on my way to round 3rd base I turfed it.  In my defense there were a bunch of slick leaves and I had no traction.  Then we had bible study with a baptist church....apparently Christ is coming to redeem his church and I quote the leader of the group, "The Church of Jesus Christ".  Sounds familiar doesn't it?  I don't know but that sounds super close to another church I have heard about.  Well  I guess we will see at the second coming.  Wednesday we just taught some people.  Nothing too exciting.  Thursday we planned for this upcoming week and continued the never ending process of cleaning up the area book.  Friday we had a super solid morning.  Teaching three lessons and getting a new investigator.  The afternoon just fell apart though.  Still a super great day.  Saturday we drove out to the booneys to find some referrals and talked to a guy who has worked with criminals for 25 years.  He had some cool and messed up stories.  Then in the afternoon we just looked for people to teach and talk to.  Nothing too spectacular.  Sunday we had church.  I got to say the closing prayer.  (I hope the bishopric knows that counts for my talking in this ward)  I have made it almost 7 months without having to give a talk in sacrament.  Apparently that's like unheard of out here.  So yeah we got roped into singing in the choir for Stake Conference and we have one song that is just the men and one other missionary and I are singing the super high part....It sounds great but is not the most fun thing I have ever done.  I would definitely encourage everyone to go sing with the choir of their ward.  There is such a special spirit that is there while you are singing.  Highlight for the week was my super awesome fortress I made Friday night.  It could only be destroyed from the inside.  I could have taken over the world with that thing....or at least the apartment in a nerf gun war ;)  Well have a great week Y'all.  I hope you enjoyed this extended addition of the week of Elder Funk.

Bonifay and Blanket Fort

Hey Y'all!
This week was a pretty solid week. Tuesday we went on a trade off so I got to go to Chipley.  Pretty cool area.  Visited a couple people.  Wednesday we traded back and then drove to Tallahassee for a multi zone conference.  We got to go out to dinner with Dusty at Steak N' Shake.  I love that guy so much!

Thursday we had our conference.  It was super spiritual and strong.  Loved every minute of it.  We also got black boxes in our cars.  Black boxes monitor how well/poorly you drive and based on their reports you can lose your driving privileges.  It also talks to you in an annoying voice telling you how to be a better driver....It's going to be a long 18 months....

Friday we went back to the jail to visit the less active again and a few minutes before we got their the guards had pepper sprayed a guy and that stuff is awful.  It coated my nose for days and I didn't even get the bad part of it.  I would rather be tazed 10 times than get pepper sprayed.  Then we did a lot of contacting and finding the rest of that day and Saturday.  Yesterday we did some more finding and had church and what not.  So yeah.  good week over all.   Have a great week y'all!

From a baptism to a jail visit

Hey Y'all!

Guess what!?!?!  I am a normal missionary now!  I have been transferred to Bonifay Florida.  A nice little town in the panhandle of Florida.  I have P-Days on Monday and am in a family ward.  Weird stuff.

Anyway last Saturday Dusty got baptized!  Super cool way to go out.  I got to talk at his baptism and his parents aren't too fond of Mormons but when I was talking his father relaxed a ton and you could just see him get more comfortable with the whole situation even if he didn't fully endorse it.  Then that night we did some family history work with.... (drum roll please).... Quantangela!  How cool of a name is that!??!?!?

Then Monday we had dinner over at Dusty's house with his mother.  She is a super sweet hard core southerner.  Tuesday nothing special happened and then Wednesday was transfers.  Got called to Bonifay with Elder Olson and Elder Whitney.  Yes another tripanionship.  I guess I am not a totally normal missionary yet.    I did manage to survive 6 months here in the mission field.  Shout out to myself (and my family for all of their  support).  I did get reunited with a former roommate in Elder Farris!  I love that kid so much!  Hilarious guy.  Thursday we cleaned up the area book because some people are unable to keep up the area book apparently.

So we did that and Friday we went to visit a less active that is in jail.  Just like in the movies.  We had a pane of glass between us and a telephone on each side to talk to each other.  Cool stuff.  Then saturday we did a lot of service for a less active.  Cutting bamboo and burning it in the middle of the day.  Giant fire and a broken toilet on the lawn.  Yep I work with rednecks!  boo ya!  Sunday we got to visit an investigator who is going through Chemo for cancer and he and his family are the best!  I love them so much!  He only has 4 treatments left so he should be done in a few months.  So yeah...That explains a lot of my past week. Hope Y'all have a great week!

1 for 9

Hey Y'all,
This week flew by and yet I don't remember a whole lot actually happening.  As for things that did happen it is now Family History week!  We decided that we were going to win this time so we went to Florida A&M University (A predominately African American college).  There we stood in one spot for just over an hour and got 12 return appointments.  Yeah we haven't had a single one of those people show up for their appointments but we know how to throw the numbers ;)

Tuesday nothing really exciting happened.  Wednesday....nothing note worthy.  Thursday we had interviews with President Smith.  Dusty also passed his interview later that night.  Yesterday was a noteworthy day.  We had 9 appointments scheduled and only 1 showed up.

The AP's came to do an exchange for a couple hours on campus during 4 of our appointments so I guess it was a good thing that they all fell through.  The one lesson that did show up was a super great guy.  He sees how all of the other churches are corrupt, likes the standards of the church, and is a soccer guy!  He is working for the Tottenham Hotspurs (English Premier League).  Super cool.  Today, we are having Dusty's baptism!  Super awesome.  Well that's all I have to say about that.  Have a great week Y'all!
